Program Overview

The Bay Area Learning for Life’s Senior High School program emphasizes the school-to-career transition for ninth through twelfth grade youth.  The program includes the following components: Career Interest Surveys, Speakers’ Bureau, College and Career Fair help and organization, access to Character Education Lesson Plans, and access to the EXPLORING program.

career interests Career Interest Surveys
Learning for Life supplies schools with survey forms.   Once students have completed the surveys, Learning for Life will tabulate the results and give the school reports identifying student career interests.  These results can be used by the school to identify career areas for a career speaker program.  They can also be used to track the career interests of students over time by repeating the survey each year.

Speakers’ Bureau
Learning for Life recruits community volunteers to speak to students about their careers.  Students receive in-depth understanding and first hand knowledge of the career area of their choice, including entry-level requirements, special training needed, important academic disciplines that must be mastered, typical working conditions, promotion opportunities, and other relevant information.

Career Exploring
EXPLORING offers an opportunity for high school students to connect with mentors in a specific career field.  Students typically meet after school or in the evening.  Schools can directly refer students to an EXPLORING group based upon their interests.
